Being invited to New York Luxury Bridal Fashion Week to document behind-the-scenes was an actual dream come true. Peeking behind the curtain of some of the world’s most iconic designers, getting to preview their new designs, and spending time with the fabulous women of L’Elite (while learning lots about the inner workings of this part of the industry) was a career high point I’ll treasure always.
Our first day began at Oscar de la Renta. It feels surreal to write those words out loud. A private showing with no models — it was a nitty gritty, no frills presentation that let the dresses speak for themselves. From iconic structured short dresses (reception outfit change, anyone?) to their trademark cutout ball gowns, the collection was succinct, yet stunning.
From there we went to Reem Acra and received the warmest welcome which set the scene for the loveliest presentation. There was movement, drama, and quite possibly the best sleeves of all time. At this point I have cartoon stars in my eyes and certainly do not envy L’Elite to have to make these difficult buying decisions. I’d want it all.
I had a photoshoot intermission and departed for that, reconvening later with the Khoory women to break bread and reflect on the day’s events. We dined at Barbounia, an upbeat Meditteranean restaurant with perfectly prepared seafood and decadent desserts (mine sprinkled in halva – a sweet, shredded tahini delight). When I arrived, there was a feast ready to go and they urged me to try everything. I felt like part of the fam. It was a wonderful ending to our first day together in the whirlwind that is NYBFW.
Stay tuned for more insights and BTS coverage from NYLBFW 2023. Thanks for joining me on this exciting journey! Let me know if you have any questions or want to learn more about this experience!
